With certain configurations of PCI-Express Option card(s) installed in PCI-E slot(s) on a ProLiant DL785 G5 or ProLiant DL785 G6 server, the System ROM may not be able to load all of the Option ROMs. This may prevent certain optional devices from working properly within the system.
This is due to a limitation of the available memory used for loading Option ROMs on x86-based servers.
DETAILS
Although there are limitations of the available memory used for loading Option ROMs on x 86-based servers, any of the following solutions may be attempted to help work around these limitations:
Disable Option ROMs that are not required for the system configuration. Refer to the documentation that was shipped with the Option card(s) on how to properly disable the Option ROM. For embedded devices, such as the network controller, the Option ROM can be disabled from within the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU). Refer to the RBSU User Guide for more information on this option.
OR
Change the order in which the System ROM loads Option ROMs for embedded devices and expansion cards. This can be accomplished by changing the RBSU option for "Expansion ROM Loading Sequence" under Advanced Options. By default on the ProLiant DL785 G5 or ProLiant DL785 G6 server, the System ROM will load Option ROMs for embedded devices first. Refer to the RBSU User Guide for more information on this option.
