HP ProLiant DL360 G6, HP ProLiant DL380 G6, HP ProLiant DL370 G6, and HP ProLiant ML350 G6 Servers - Server May on Rare Occasions Stop Responding During Power-On Self-Test (POST)
DESCRIPTION
When booting a HP ProLiant DL360 G6 HP ProLiant DL380 G6, HP ProLiant DL370 G6, or HP ProLiant ML350 G6 server for the first time, the server may on rare occasions stop responding during Power-On Self-Test (POST) or may exhibit one of the following symptoms:
- Server may not display video
- Server NIC port may be disabled
- Server may not boot
If one of the above occurs, the server will stop responding during POST. This issue occurs on a limited number of servers and has been corrected in currently shipping servers.
This issue occurs because the server reads unexpected data values from the Non-Volatile RAM (NVRAM).
SCOPE
Any one of the following ProLiant servers with a serial number of XXX919XXXX through XXX946XXXX, where the fourth character is the year code and the fifth and sixth characters are the week code of manufacture:
- ProLiant DL360 G6 server
- ProLiant DL380 G6 server
- ProLiant DL370 G6 server
- ProLiant ML350 G6 server
RESOLUTION
In order to for the server to complete POST and operate as designed, perform the following to clear the server CMOS:
- Power the server OFF.
- Set the System maintenance switch 6 to the ON position.
- Power the server back ON.
- After the server has completed the Power-On Self Test, power the server OFF.
- Set the System maintenance switch 6 back to the OFF position.
- Power the server back ON.
Note: After clearing the CMOS, this issue will not occur again.
