ProLiant DL370 G6 and ProLiant ML370 G6 Servers - Prevent Random Intermittent Reboots
DESCRIPTION
IMPORTANT : System Programmable Logic Device (SPLD) Version 48 for ProLiant DL370 G6 and ProLiant ML370 G6 servers is considered a critical fix and is required to prevent the issue detailed below. Neglecting to perform the required action could leave the server in an unstable condition, which could potentially result in random, intermittent reboots. By disregarding this notification and not performing the recommended resolution, the customer accepts the risk of incurring future related errors.

A limited number of ProLiant DL370 G6 and ProLiant ML370 G6 servers with SPLD Version 45 (or earlier) may, on rare occasions, randomly reboot. While this typically occurs after running idle for several days, the behavior is random and may occur more frequently or while under heavy I/O utilization.

When this occurs, no error messages are displayed in the IML indicating the cause of the reboot. However, the operating system log, HP Management tools log, and the IML will reflect that a reboot has occurred.

The server SPLD version is viewable in the Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU), as "CPLD version", by performing the following steps:

  1. Press F8 during Power-On Self-Test (POST) to enter iLO RBSU
  2. Highlight the "About" menu tab and press the "Enter" key.

IMPORTANT : The SPLD version shown in iLO RBSU may be incorrect when SPLD Version 45 (or earlier) is installed.
