ProLiant DL160 G6 / DL180 G6 / SL160z G6 Servers - SPLD UPDATE REQUIRED

ProLiant DL160 G6 / DL180 G6 / SL160z G6 Servers - SYSTEM PROGAMMABLE LOGIC DEVICE (SPLD) UPDATE REQUIRED to Prevent the Server From Registering the Installed Memory Size Incorrectly When Configured with an Intel Xeon 5600-Series Processor

DESCRIPTION

A ProLiant DL160 G6, ProLiant DL180 G6, or ProLiant SL160z G6 server may incorrectly register the actual amount of memory installed when configured with an Intel Xeon 5600-series processor.

For example, a server with 48 GB of memory installed may incorrectly register 40 GB or 32 GB during Power-On Self-Test (POST) or the loading process of the operating system.

This occurs when performing a server power-cycle or reboot.

SCOPE

Any one of the following ProLiant servers configured with an Intel Xeon 5600-series processor:

  • ProLiant DL160 G6 server
  • ProLiant DL180 G6 server
  • ProLiant SL160z G6 server
RESOLUTION

To prevent the issue described above from occurring or if this issue has already occurred, perform the following:

  1. Download and install SPLD Version 1.11 from the following URL:

    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib2/software1/pubsw-windows/p3231552/v61963/SP49005.exe

  2. Power the server off.
  3. Remove the AC power cord from the server (required after the SPLD update).
  4. Wait at least 10 seconds, then re-insert the power cord.
